Best Days Out in Buckinghamshire this August

Keeping young minds occupied during the Summer holidays can be a tricky task for many parents, even more so when the weather is as wet and dreary as it has been over the last few days. Buckinghamshire is packed full of kid-friendly activities that are perfect whatever the weather, check out our list of the best days out in Buckinghamshire:

Roald Dahl Museum and Guided Trails

During August the Roald Dahl Museum is holding guided walks around the village that Roald Dahl lived and wrote his stories in. You can choose between the Village Trail which explores local sights and the Countryside Trail which ventures further afield to the local Chilterns countryside. If the weather is poor then a trip to the Roald Dahl Museum is a fantastic way to spend a rainy day, featuring three interactive galleries aimed at 6 to 12 year olds.

Gerrards Cross Classic Car Show

The annual Classic Car Show will be descending on Gerrards Cross on 9th August, and is a great family event and a chance to delve into the cars and motorcycles of yesteryear. Refreshments and a licensed bar will be available throughout the afternoon, with all proceeds going to local charities.

Tree Climbing in Cliveden

On selected dates throughout August, the National Trust has arranged the Big Tree Climbing event in Cliveden. Aimed for ages 6-16, it is a perfect event for young adventurers to find their feet and explore the trees of the National Trust area. The event will be going ahead whatever the weather, so be sure to bring waterproofs and wellies just in case! Spaces are filling fast with some time slots already fully booked, book a space online here.

Bucks County Show

On Thursday 31st August the 150th Bucks County Show will take place on Weedon Park, and is known as one of the best one day agricultural shows in the country. With old favourites returning such as The Household Cavalry Musical Ride, the Sheep Show, and hundreds of trade stands and marquees there really is something for all the family.

Rhinos at Cotswold Wildlife Park

The Cotswold Wildlife Park is hosting Rhino Month throughout August, featuring daily talks about the magnificent animals, and 19th and 20th August is Rhino Weekend at the park where the focus will be on raising awareness and funds for Rhino conservation work in Africa. There will be heaps of fun activities and competitions taking place over the weekend, as well as the chance to meet all the other animals that live in the 160 acres of parkland.

Finish off a lovely family day out with a delicious meal in Beeches Restaurant at the Bull Hotel. Children aged 5-12 eat for half price when dining from the adult menu, and they will also get soft drinks during the meal and a kids activity pack. Children 4 and under eat for free.
